Let’s go ahead and check it out now. Aftershock has been in the industry for quite some time, and they are known for creating open-ear headphones that use bone conduction technology to allow people to hear music.

You can ask are bone conduct headphones safe for your ears? You can get your answer.

AfterShokz OpenComm Review

This is great for children, especially for those that are concerned about loud sounds and impacting hearing for developing children.

This is also an excellent solution for those who are hearing impaired for the blind, having your senses still available, meaning being able to listen to what’s going on around you.

But also, being able to take a call to listen to an audiobook listen to music is incredibly important for those who are visually impaired. So these solutions work great for that community because you can continue to hear what’s going on around you.

It is like normal transparency mode because nothing is going in your ear, but at the same time, you can hear everything that’s going on in these headphones through music or either google maps.

Specs

AfterShokz OpenComm Review

Let’s look at the specs and see why you may want to consider the aftershock opencomm. From a spec perspective, the first thing that I will highlight here on the box is that these have 16 hours of battery life which is pretty impressive.

It also has quick charging technology. Five minutes is going to give you two hours of additional use. So this will last you multiple days. You don’t have to worry about losing battery, and if you do, five minutes again will give you two hours more, which will cover any class or any meeting.

They also support Bluetooth 5.0. They will provide you with a distance connection over 30 feet, and I have hadn’t have any syncing issues when it comes to streaming either Hulu, Netflix, or any of those shows.

They do support multi-pairing, which means they can connect to aftershokz opencomm multiple devices, which is also really good ip55 rated, which means you will be able to use them and work out.

If you don’t want to have the mic down, all you have to do is flip it up. You can use them in the gym for any workout, and if you are taking a phone call, all you have to do is bring your mic down. But we will look at this a little bit closer in a couple of seconds.

What’s in the box?

In the box, we have several accessories. The first thing I want to highlight is this nice. I would say, business travel case. It is larger than the headphones themselves, but I appreciate the design and the fact that it is crushproof.

You will notice that you can put your headphone here. It aligns nicely. You have a little area here that you have your warranty card. It comes with a two-year warranty where you can put any accessories on your charging cable.

But this is a pretty robust case for such a flexible solution in addition to your case. You have your headphone, and we will take a look at this closer.

You have a proprietary charging case in a couple of seconds that’s a little disappointing, or I am sorry, cable a bit disappointing because I wish it were USB-C.

So you didn’t have to carry an extra cable, but it’s a magnetic cable with USB-A on one side that’s going to allow you to charge the headphone.

You have an instruction guide with information here and a little quick reference card that we will look at shortly. Now from a charging perspective, this is pretty straightforward. All you do is place your cord here. It is self-guiding.

Tech Space

AfterShokz OpenComm Review

It locks into place, and it’s going to charge immediately no USB-C, but it goes right here, and then it’s done there’s no cover to this. I was surprised to learn that there’s no cover here.

If this gets wet again, this is not submergible, but if you are running or you have sweat, there’s supposed to be no type of impact to this contact point. You will notice that the headphone is exceptionally flexible.

This is going to give you the ultimate flexibility. There are no rough edges at all anywhere. It is an excellent and smooth satin finish. You have your control buttons, a multi-function button.

So volume up and down also serves as a mute function. So you can mute these, and these are the contact points that will be touching right here in your temples, which will help you deliver the audio NFC as well if you want to pair this with your phone or any device that can support NFC.

All you have to do is put it in pairing mode tap, and you are set to go. Putting these on is pretty straightforward.

You grab them like this, put them over your head, and then this is what they would look like, and again these I am telling you I am amazed at how comfortable these are.

It is like wearing nothing great if you are in a car because you can hear everything that’s going around you. If you are out or running even in your home.

Again some of us don’t like wearing headphones and covering our ears you want something small something lightweight, and this is it. So you notice how the mic comes up and down nicely.

Audio Expectations

AfterShokz OpenComm Review: Best Wireless Stereo Bone Conduction Headphone

It is a noise-cancelling mic, and we will see how well they perform when we do our audio test and call quality. How does the audio for these headphones work well? I will describe this?

It is not going to be the type of audio experience that you get when wearing the bose or the galaxy buds plus or even the beams, for that matter, that are in your ear. These are on your temples on the side, but they do deliver music again.

It is not going to be high fidelity. It is not going to be Sennheiser quality. It will not be what we would expect from a sony, but it is delivering the music, and it is quite enjoyable.

From a comfort perspective, there’s no beating. These are incredibly comfortable, and as I mentioned for those of you who may be listening to this or blind or have low vision. These are fantastic for that community.

Conclusion

Aftershock Opencomm headphones are one of the most comfortable headphones. They are definitely for extended use and to give you the ultimate flexibility.

If you are still looking for headphones or earbuds that have active noise canceling, have a fantastic audio quality, or call quality, make sure you check out our top list or review category.
